Article reports 50% reduction in bloodstream infections related to central catheter, with the introduction of bundle

In order to demystify the effectiveness of bundles aimed at reducing and preventing bloodstream infections related to central catheters, the article by Hernández-Aceituno et. al, which reports a 54.8% reduction in catheter infections. 

In the article “Are introducing a bundle of measures for reducing CLABSI effective?”Explains that the research focused on seeking results from the subclavian vein insertion procedures, through central access guided by ultrasound.


The conclusion of the study reports that, in the analyzed period, there was a reduction in CLABSI (Central Line Associated Bloodstream Infection) when the insertion bundle was implemented. In this study, the proposed bundle was the subclavian vein as the first choice, strict skin antisepsis, maximum protection barrier, sterile probe protector and checklist to verify adherence to the bundle.
